We Lead Program
We Lead is a new, inspiring, innovative and far-reaching program aiming to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRH-R) of young women taking into account gender equality and social inclusion. The program puts young women rightsholders in the driving seat, while supporting them to impactful and sustainably advocate for their SRH-R.
The program puts young women from 19 – 35 years old in the driver’s seat, connecting them with each other in Communities of Action “COAs” (CSOs/NGOs). In these spaces, they share knowledge, experiences, and ideas, and learn from one another, while they also develop joint strategies to improve their SRH-R. We accompany and coach them as they work towards achieving the legal and policy changes, they have targeted.
We Lead Vision: Resilient Young Women Play a Leading Role in Strengthened and Inclusive Organizations that Enjoy Increased Public Support and have Convinced Duty-Bearers and Health Service Providers to Take Steps Towards Implementing Laws, Policies and Practices that Respect and Protect Young Women’s SRHR
We Lead global outcomes:
The four main outcomes of the program and to which the CBOs/CSOs/NGOs can contribute:
- CSOs and right holders have increased their capacity and become inclusive of or led by young women, and they work in a community of action to defend and promote SRHR
- The general public increasingly acknowledges and supports young women's SRHR
- Health service providers are more aware of the SRHR needs and situation of the young women and increasingly provide accessible, comprehensive, high-quality, inclusive, respectful SRHR info and services
- Duty-bearers increasingly design, adopt and implement laws and policies that respect and protect the SRHR of young women
The program is implemented in nine countries in Africa, the Middle East and Central America. The We Lead consortium consists of six civil society organizations (Positive Vibes, Restless Development, Marsa, FEMNET, the Central American Women’s Fund, and Hivos). The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also part of the partnership. Hivos is the lead party. The five-year program is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the SRHR Partnership Fund, which is part of the Strengthening Civil Society subsidy framework.
The program in Jordan is hosted by Arab Network for Civic Education – ANHRE, which is responsible for establishing the Community of Action (CoA) and enhancing the space for learning, capacity strengthening and joint actions.
