The Arab Network for Civic Education - ANHRE conducted a launching event of its new strategic plan (2017-2019) in partnership with IM Swedish Development Partner on December 11, 2016 at Geneva-Amman hotel with wide regional and national participation of civil society organizations, partners, media people and experts.
This event was conducted within the framework of the development of ANHRE Strategic Plan 2017-2019 taking into consideration the new context of human rights and civic education and the new needs of the target groups in the Arab world, as well as the new actors and stakeholders. ANHRE's new strategy is focusing on mainstreaming gender and human rights, including the rights of disabled people and this will be reflected later on inclusive programs, policies, procedures, and systems.
ANHRE is working to apply gender and inclusive mainstreaming in different levels beginning from the organizational sphere at the level of the organization itself, taking into consideration its culture, policies and practices. This will include building the capacity of ANHRE members and engage them into developing the strategic plan, and put action plan for 3 years that take into account the human rights including rights of disabled people, inclusion and gender mainstreaming. The second level is on the programming sphere or sphere of implementation at the level of managing the network's programmes. ANHRE program on citizenship will be revised to be inclusive and gender mainstreamed which involves the methodology and the implementation of the programs at all stages.
According to Mrs. FotouhYounes, ANHRE Executive Director, that "within the current context, it is necessary to develop a new strategic plan for the network in order to identify our priorities in accordance with the international and regional changes, with specific focus on the continuation of the institutional building of the network through promoting its previous achievements, and reconsidering the role and mission assigned to it, taking into consideration the inclusion of gender equity and the rights of people with disability ".
Mr. Ahmad Badawi, a founding member and board member in the network, commented that "ANHRE since its establishment in 2009 focused on three key programs that are Democratic Citizenship Education, Human Rights Education, and Right to Education." He added "these three programs are applying rights-based approach and use advocacy as a main tool.
Mr. Refaat Sabbah, a founding member of ANHRE, said that "ANHRE network was able to create partnerships with regional and strategic dimension, which was intended to enhance coordination and cooperation on issues of common interest or the implementation of regional projects.The network is also engaged in many regional and international activities in order to promote and strengthen its position as regional network. Mr. Sabbah added "In this context, the network enrolled in memberships in many international platforms including the Global Campaign for Education for All- GCE, Arab Campaign for Education for All- ACEA, UNESCO's Collective Consultation of NGOs of Education for All (CCNGO/EFA), Middle East Network on Innovative Teaching and learning- MENIT, and Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue Between Cultures. In addition, ANHRE is an executive board member in The International Council for Adult Education- ICEA and the coordinator for the Regional Initiative of Adult Education in Middle East and North Africa.
The Arab Network for Civic Education- ANHRE is an independent non-governmental Arab Network working to unify and coordinate efforts among different civil societies concerned with Human Rights and Citizenship Education, to influence the policies, procedures, formal and non-formal regulations in order to ensure the adoption of legislations that respect Human Rights and dignity.
